Facing Another Round: mCNV Strikes Again

I’m not sure why it seems I notice when things aren’t right with my vision when I’m standing at the kitchen sink looking out the window. Maybe the metal black spindles on our fence make it easier to see. It’s June 2025, a month ago now, and I notice a faint spot in my right eye this time. I have this sinking feeling that I now have a bleed in this eye. It was my left eye back in 2022. This one is different. It’s like a faint round green-gray spot that I can sort of see through. We had taken a couple of days off of work after Memorial Day and I really didn’t want to deal with this on my time off but knew I needed to call my retinal specialist and make an appointment.

My retinal specialist got me in a couple of days later and after dilation and an OCT scan, didn’t see any sign of bleeding or retinal swelling and I was told to keep an eye on it (why do they always say that) and call back if anything changed.

Fast forward two weeks later and again while working in Excel, I noticed the wavy lines. See my diagnosis post. I immediately called my retinal specialist and they got me in that day. Dilation and another OCT scan showed I had a small bleed. It was probably starting to brew two weeks prior but was not enough to show up on a scan. An Avastin injection ensued. I hadn’t had one since 2022 and was really hopeful that I had somehow escaped having to deal with this again but no such luck. What I took from that experience is that no type of technology can determine if something isn’t right if it hasn’t gotten to a certain point. Meaning, you will know if something is “off” with your vision long before a piece of equipment will. My question for my retinal specialist at my next injection which is today will be “Why don’t we just do injections regardless every 3 months just to be safe?” Maybe it’s an insurance thing, I really don’t know but aim to find out.

My first injection has helped the wavy lines but I still have the blind spot in the upper left portion of my central vision. I’m not sure if after my second and third injection in this series if it will get better or not. It could be scarring on my retina from the bleed. Only time will tell.
